01. Early Years


As a child I drew on the wallpaper, my clothes and myself. I felt compelled to express my thoughts as visual signs. This coupled with my visits to the Acton Vale Printworks aged five made me decide to become an artist.

I studied for a degree in Graphic Design at Maidstone College of Art 1985 - 1988, reality check time. I was discouraged and criticised at Maidstone. I was abused and called a fraud and that I should think about leaving.

I thought fuck the tutors (in fact I said those very words to the Course Director).

I survived, the thought of other tortured souls kept me going. I was able to use the three years to discover who I wasn't and what I wanted.

I was very superior minded and angry at prostituting myself to make ends meet. The Design Industry began to change me for the worst.
