The genre of this novel is Hard Boiled Fiction the new name for Noir. The work I produced for Serpent's Tail was enjoyable and I worked directly with the designers to ensure that image, layout and typography were in perfect harmony. It made a difference being treated as someone integral to the design process. This holistic approach to commissioning should be something that illustrators insist on when it is appropriate.
