04. THE FUTURE?

The purpose of the Happy Accident exhibition was to help me decide what to do with my work. I wish to make the viewer think carefully about some of the major problems that our society faces. Designers have a social responsibility and must not work in a vacuum.

Consider the following:

"Most directors who have been around for a while acquire a gaunt, soul-scarred look associated with fighter pilots who have survived a war." Jack Cardiff, British Cinematographer born 1914

"The Four Levels of Comedy: Make your friends laugh, Make strangers laugh, Get paid to make strangers laugh, and Make people talk like you because it’s so much fun." Jerry Seinfeld, US Comedian born 1954

I still have questions that I would like to have answered. What is it that we need to do to make sense of Art, Design and Communication practice? Humour might be one answer.

My work in this area will be featured in the Research in Progress exhibition at the London College of Communication (UAL) 6 – 18 November 2006.
